When it comes to a dining area in the kitchen, there’s nothing like a banquette, the most perfect booth seating of them all. It adds a cosy vibe to the space and works with a variety of design styles. They are an excellent solution to add character and quirkiness to any kitchen design and a more practical idea to individual chairs.

Banquettes have gained popularity over the past several years, as homes today become more casual. This type of seating refers to the built-in benches often found in restaurants and cafes. A very much cosy way to dine, and are showing up in open-plan kitchens in many homes across the world.

You can maximise the kitchen eating space with a banquette, while minimising the footprint of the area, making them ideal for smaller, tighter spaces. With this type of seating, you don’t need the room to walk behind, so it enables you to fit a dining table into a space that may be too crowded with a stand-alone table and chairs.

Banquettes can be made into a breakfast nook, or created with just a bench seat on one side of the table and placed underneath a window. The bench seats are upholstered for maximum comfort with pillows and furnishings that match the rest of the décor, but sometimes a simple bench cushion is all that’s required.

A banquette not only offers an efficient space, but they also have another benefit of being built with lift-up tops or drawers to accommodate additional storage.

In this blog, you can feast your eyes on the banquette we hand-built for our client in Barnet. It is such a wonderful kitchen idea and provides our client and her family with a modern kitchen that’s lovingly handcrafted.

The handmade kitchen by Nicholas Bridger in Golder’s Green has been designed with our classic shaker style on two floors. A kitchen island lies on the top floor surrounded with an L-shaped kitchen layout and an additional breakfast bar area. As you go down the stairs the stunning solid wood banquette leans up against the back wall and kitchen, making way for the ideal banquette seating area in the new extension. Our client is yet to furnish this and add the chosen table, but we can’t wait to see it, it’s going to look incredible!

We hand-painted the kitchen cabinets and banquette area in Railings by Farrow & Ball. This colour has proven to be a popular colour in our kitchens this year. Railings is a soft black with blue undertones which is a softer alternative to black itself. The bluer undertones of this dark hue transform the room into a dramatic and enveloping interior space.

We completed the look with brass hardware from Perrin & Rowe and Carrara quartz worktops to give a luxury finish to this beautiful home in Barnet.

This is also the perfect seating area to unwind an read a book. Just look at that humongous book case!

At the Handmade Kitchen Company by Nicholas Bridger we have gained a fantastic reputation for our quality of kitchen design, finished product and service.

Seating can be bespoke fitted and handmade such as benches and curved family seating which will feature luxury fabrics and handcrafted in your choice of solid timber either to match the kitchen or an alternative look. We have many clients opting for kitchen booth seating areas carefully designed into the available space and user requirements.
