Bridger Kitchen Diary – A closer look at the Classic Shaker in Balham
At the beginning of 2020 saw us photographing a recent project in London. The relatively compact space made way for our beautiful handmade furniture in our Classic Shaker style. We ensured throughout that the proportions are as generous as possible all hand-painted in a dark hue, and added amazing appliances. This certainly is a fine barista station created in a Balham home.
We welcome you to say hello to this refined industrial style of wood and metal…
… in this gorgeous townhouse in Balham, South West London.
Industrial style kitchens are proving to be popular in both traditional and modern homes. We love how the industrial style works especially in this townhouse. Functional and stylish combines the look of a professional kitchen with quirky, factory-inspired touches.
The whole of the space has been hand-painted in Off-Black Farrow & Ball. Off-Black is a soft black and is one of the original colours from the Farrow & Ball paint chart. It is much more flattering to adjacent colours than stronger blacks because it feels so much milder in tone and has none of the underlying cool blue hues like Railings.
The kitchen space has been divided into three sections with the compact kitchen island separating the main kitchen from the dining area.
Our client wanted to expose some of the original features into their kitchen design, and we don’t blame them after all the style is all about raw textural beauty. The beautiful exposed brick wall makes us design envy and provides a real statement to the industrial interior. It really is an amazing backdrop to this part of the kitchen, it actually makes us think we are in a real-life coffee shop!
The industrial style combines brick, wood and different metals, a trend that won’t ever go out of fashion and will be sure to impress friends and family.
The slate tiles on the kitchen floor add to the design aesthetics and provide a hard-wearing surface for all the family, as well as through traffic.
The lighter hues of the worktops and metals contrast against the bold colours.
Inside the incredible day pantry, we designed and built with solid wood features a cold-shelf, open shelving and spice racks fitted to the backs of the doors.
Shelf spacing is vital as it can maximise the room you have for storage as well as provide the right height for those tall tins and jars. We equally spaced out the shelves for our client to be able to store all sized jars and created a ‘cold shelf’ out of the Carrara style quartz to prepare and serve all in one place.
The day pantry has become an increasingly popular and loving element to a Nicholas Bridger handmade kitchen. They are a handy spot to keep cooking ingredients all in one place, creating the perfect multi-functional kitchen, as well as keeping the cooking ingredients stocked up.
A lovely view of the kitchen going towards the front of the house. We love our client’s choice of artwork!
We supplied and fitted this wonderful kitchen with Armac Martin knobs and handles. The small doors feature the Carlton Knob, on the large doors are the Gaumont Pull and Cotswold 2090 Pull Handles finish the look on the drawers.
We love how the wood and metals combine together to create this divine cooking space, that we know our client will love for many years to come.
The island in the middle of the room offers a simple and compact unit, yet attractively pretty. It allows our client to experience more worktop space and additional storage with a handy place to house a plug socket. We can just imagine mixing delicious cakes on this.
An L-shaped layout flows around one corner with a galley kitchen style on the other wall.
What we love about this practical island is the size of drawers that come within. We proportioned the sections in the perfect way to fit the largest of utensils, so each and every one of them had a home.
Our client invested in a state-of-the-art Expobar – Brewtus Multi-boiler pump espresso machine. Expobar has over 20 years in the industry and has become known for its product reliability and continual improvements while following closely with the technological advances in the world today. These espresso machines are the solution for homeowners who want commercial quality and the convenience of making “the best coffee” at home.
We made sure that when designing this kitchen there was plenty of storage and worktop space to house the coffee station and essentials. We placed the day pantry right next to the espresso machine to make way for the perfect breakfast area too.
The stunning sink area has been completed with a polished chrome tap with separate rinse by Perrin & Rowe, combined with a Villeroy & Boch ceramic sink. We designed this right underneath the window to take a view of the London skyline.
The whole kitchen has been fitted out with a Carrara style quartz which is a great example of the highly desirable and premium look offered by imitation Marble. Splashbacks and upstands also complete the style.
A Bertazzoni Range Cooker in stainless steel sits pride of place with a matching extractor hood. Great style and performance on offer from such a compact unit. This double range cooker gives great versatility and style to the hub of the home. 11 functions are within this small compact cooker and a digital programmer that allows for perfect controlled cooking
Bertazzoni cooking appliances have helped people bring the best of home-cooked food to the family table for more than 100 years. They have built a reputation on the quality of the engineering within and a deep passion for food and family. The company and product were born in Emilia-Romagna, Italy, and now available around the globe.
We designed and built an open-plan shelf to sit above the range cooker to house the kitchen essentials like oils and salt and pepper to taste.
A prime example of how big bulky appliances can fit within our handmade furniture is the integrated dishwasher and special housing to fit around the American fridge/freezer.
