Bridger Kitchen Diary – A closer look at the Classic Shaker in Chigwell, Essex
This 2017 kitchen handmade by us has recently been updated with a new colour – Railings by Farrow & Ball. Our client took full advantage of the fact that you can sand back and repaint the furniture of a handmade kitchen to freshen up the space. It consists of many different materials such as polished brass and stainless steel.
We invite you in to say hello to this newly refurbished classic style kitchen with a dark twist…
… in this lovely cosy retreat on the outskirts of Chigwell, Essex.
This lovely L-shaped layout sits to the side of the house and opens up to the garden. It’s also situated in an open-plan room where the island acts as a divider between the main kitchen and dining area. The kitchen is from our classic shaker range which has been handmade in our workshop in Essex and lovingly designed by Nick himself.
With the light walls, dark furniture and wooden floor the aesthetics of the classic style come together providing our client and family with a loving kitchen for many years to come. The updated colour brings a new sense of life to the home.
Railings from Farrow & Ball has proven to be a very popular colour in our kitchens. It is a soft black with blue undertones and offers a softer alternative to black which is particularly suited to the ironwork it takes its name from. The bluer undertones of this dark hue transforms rooms into dramatic and enveloping interior spaces and it certainly does just that in this hub of the home.
The worktops are a white Carrara style Quartz in a 30mm thickness to add extra depth to the kitchen. Carrara style worktops are known for the soft white hue and smokey grey veins that run through the surface and are quite popular in today’s styles. It’s a traditional style with lots of hard-wearing properties that are suited to the everyday life of a kitchen.
Our client opted for the Carrara marble worktops to work around the splashback area of the range cooker, providing a timeless and elegant appeal.
The stunning range cooker sits on the main kitchen run in a bold and statement black, complementing the painted furniture and marble worktops, as well as creating a real design feature in this hub of the home. The warmth from this will provide heat in the winter and a tasty hot dish.
Enclosed behind the last cabinet is the fridge/freezer. It’s the perfect idea to integrate with the rest of the cabinetry and provide the third point of the ‘kitchen triangle’.
This is the island. Full of drawers and cupboards for the perfect storage solutions and Mrs Hinch’s army. The cabinetry has been completed with beautiful handmade handles and knobs by Perrin & Rowe in a polished brass finish, they also match the deck mounted tap perfectly, also from Perrin & Rowe.
The plinths are of an in-set design that shows the legs of the furniture and makes it appear to stand directly on the floor, making the unit look bolder and fuller.
On the other side is where the seating area lays.
Open-shelving in the kitchen is the latest design trend that many clients have opted for. It’s a great opportunity to maximise storage, make the most out of a free wall or cupboard space and create a stunning feature. We added this open-shelf to the cooker hood for our client to add their personal touches.
We love the little cupboards that have been built into the cooker hood frame too.
A beautiful shot of the pendant lighting that sits above the island in this kitchen design. Three sit in a row on the higher ceiling to provide our client with adequate lighting when preparing for that tasty bake. They are an elegant design and sourced locally by our client.
