  3. Bridger Kitchen Diary – A closer look at the Classic Shaker in Hadley Wood

In this large open-plan space sits our popular Classic Shaker style in a U-shaped kitchen layout completed with award-winning appliances by Sub-Zero Wolf and a two-tone colour scheme. An island makes a bold statement in the middle of the space with an area to sit, eat, prepare and store.

We worked with the very talented @tomhugheslondon on the design and layout, and not just the kitchen either! You will see the other handmade furniture as you scroll on down.

We welcome you to a closer look at this absolutely stunning hub of the home…

… where the beautiful pictures tell a story of a kitchen space belonging to a wonderful family and their home in the suburbs of Greater London.

As you can see the space is very large with every corner filled with our handmade kitchen made up of the classic shaker and a Georgian style beading surrounding each door and drawer.

The large island has spacious seating for 6 with a secondary sink and tap and oodles of storage underneath. What a great place to sit and enjoy some food and drink, no matter the time of day.

It also makes for a bold statement with it being hand-painted in a darker hue of a calming and relaxing blue.

The design details explored… the cornices are a traditional style, the pelmets add depth to the cabinets and the skirting is of an inset design making them appear to stand directly on the floor showing the legs of the cabinetry and giving the kitchen a solid finished look.

The kitchen has been hand-painted in a two-tone colour scheme of French Grey 113 & Juniper Ash 115 both from Little Greene. French Grey is known as a ‘fancy’ colour far from cheap and Juniper Ash is a gorgeous blue, with warmth and intimacy, without being overwhelming by its presence. This colour scheme certainly gives off a welcoming vibe.

The main kitchen is in French Grey and the island is Juniper Ash.

The shot below shows you the space overall and a clear indication that this is a large property with some fabulous design features and a very well designed layout with the all important ‘kitchen triangle’.⠀

Perrin & Rowe fill both wet areas by the window and on the island. The sink area by the window features a tap, boiling water tap and pull-out rinse with a Shaws sink, the island features a smaller under-mount sink and a single tap.

Look at this outstanding set up of stainless steel appliances and a corner larder with open-shelving within. We can see that this part of the kitchen is going to get some serious use out of it!

We just love how the pocket doors on the larder reveal such a wonderful storage cabinet. A perfect home for the coffee machine and microwave, turning it into a very much loved breakfast/day pantry!

This clever kitchen design takes up most of the space, but because of the room is so big a little living area was designed in too. A comfy seating area for guests to enjoy a crisp glass of wine from the Wolf Wine Preservation Unit while the cook finishes off those tasty dishes.

You can see clearly the warmth of the wooden floor and the vast amount of natural light flooding into the room makes for a beautiful setting at the back of the home.

Below is our solution to an awkward situation. A truly bespoke Corner Larder with Pocket Doors.⠀

What are the advantages of this design?⠀

1) The pocket doors swing open individually without colliding and slide into the cabinet housing inside concealed cavities. The runner system is over-engineered as specified by us to last as long as our kitchens do and provide a nice operating weight and friction which gives you the confidence to open the doors like you would any other door.⠀
2) The wide opening offered by the pocket door system ensures you can easily reach the rearmost portion of each shelf.⠀
3) The doors can be left open for anything from preparing food, entertaining or for breakfast time – it’s up to you.⠀
4) You can opt for any number of shelves, drawers, no drawers, wine rack, power outlets, quartz worktop…remember it’s bespoke!

Our client opted for 5 shelves and two drawers with an additional wine rack and a place for the microwave and coffee machine on the ‘cold shelf’. The Carrara quartz worktops have been added to this too.

Just look at that impressive island. It features many cupboards and drawers and our bespoke serving trays made from solid oak.

You can also see the Armac Martin Queslett Pull & Knob with square backplate up close in polished chrome. They present a beautiful blend of form and function and look perfect in any style kitchen, especially this classic style.

Just look at that double bowl ceramic sink by Shaws of Darwin at the main sink area. With a huge window, our client can enjoy the views of their outdoor space while doing the chores.

The worktops are a Carrara marble quartz that gives a luxurious finish and a timeless style that will be loved for many years. This particular stone has been very popular throughout recent years and is hard-wearing and durable.

This bespoke cooker hood really does steal the show. With a soft subtle ledge for a decorative piece and a traditional style cornice, this part of the kitchen tells a wonderful story and starts a conversation.

Along the main kitchen run a Wolf 1219mm Sealed Burner Range-Top 4 Burner, Chargrill & Griddle sits with many storage solutions available around the appliance to make cooking that little easier. This is the ultimate cooking appliance that cooks perfect recipes every day from pancakes to fried breakfasts and stir-fries. Professional chefs choose gas cooking for one reason and that is because you have full control of the temperature. Our client’s aim was to become a professional chef in their own home and these appliances have allowed them to do this.

Two large drawers with additional internal drawers and two pull-out spice racks make an easy solution to house kitchen essentials and the favourite herbs and spices.

To go with the Wolf Rangetop, the best extraction solution available we think is this Westin extractor with twin motor, built within our bespoke cooker hood. It is complemented with a full-height splashback made from the Carrara quartz worktop.⠀

Here is the stunning bank of Wolf appliances. The Wolf M Series 762mm Professional Steam Oven sits at the top with the Wolf 762mm M Series Professional Built-in Oven underneath and right at the bottom a Wolf M Series 762mm Professional Warming Drawer.

A great shot of the main kitchen and utility room divided by just one wall.

Here is the spacious utility room that has many kitchen cabinets within. All hand-painted in Juniper Ash by Little Greene and our classic shaker style cabinetry. The washing machine and dryer sit neat and flush within out classic shaker and a farmhouse sink sits in the middle to make doing the chores easier.

A beautiful floor-to-ceiling cabinet can be seen here providing our client with extra storage space in their spacious utility. We also added a coat rack to the mix with overhead storage and a unique, bespoke laundry basket.

We even produced some furniture to enable flow-through into other areas of our client’s property in Hadley Wood, including this floor-to-ceiling cupboard in their gym.⠀

Let us leave you with this shot from the main kitchen back into the open-plan living.
