  3. Bridger Kitchen Diary – A closer look at the Classic Shaker in Henham

We welcome you into this dark and sultry grey handmade kitchen we completed all designed to fill the space created by the architect and client as a brand new build property to exact specifications.

Solid oak beams run along the high ceiling for a soft rustic look and a style that will never be outdated. Exposed wooden beams are proving to be popular in the modern home and our client has certainly made these a beautiful feature!

Say hello to the beautiful, mysterious and rustic Classic shaker…

… featuring some of the most amazing appliances in the world, set in a village and civil parish known as Henham in the Uttlesford district of Essex.

This property has been added with a magnificent open-plan space with an island centred in the middle and the utility room to the back. You can easily glide through each section at ease with plenty of floor space.

We even fitted some of the cabinetry around the wooden beams, making this kitchen become part of the property rather than it looking like it was added after.

The storage possibilities are endless creating an L-shaped layout that’s adjoined by a Granite known as Piracema White. The granite has a unique appearance of grey, black, white and beige in different shapes and sizes, providing a striking and bold look against the dark lead grey.

Our client specified that they wanted a dark and sultry grey kitchen just like the highly anticipated film “Fifty Shades of Grey”.

We hand-painted the classic shaker kitchen in Down Pipe by Farrow & Ball. It is a dramatic lead grey that has definite blue undertones to it which deepen the complexity of the finish. It was originally inspired by the colours used to paint downpipes and guttering, hence the name. It has now been used to embrace the inside of a home with fanatical zeal and certainly proves this in this space!

This daringly dark hue is a fabulous background to art and extremely effective for use on a kitchen island and works wonders on the island in this kitchen.

The magnificent kitchen island sits in the middle with a curved edge and plush charcoal with a blue undertone bar stools. This makes for the perfect entertaining area with an added Liebherr Wine Cabinet on the end.

The chef will never miss out on the gossip now!

The soft tiled flooring provides a glowing backdrop in the background that’s suitable for all wear and tear.

This is the view from the dining room area where the L-shaped layout fills the space with beautiful kitchen cabinets all in a row.

The shorter side of the “L” glides beautifully round with spotlights inserted into the inset plinths. Inset plinths make the cabinets appear to stand directly on the floor, showing the legs of the cabinetry.

A gorgeous dresser sits behind the dining table, which works out to be the perfect place for special ornaments and keeping the wine stocked up with a bespoke wine rack.

The delightful TV cabinet finished with traditional style cornices and inset plinths …

The slim, tall unit was placed in the far left corner of the kitchen behind the dining table. Therefore it allows for soft seating while eating dinner and catching up with that TV show you recorded.

On the main run of the “L”, we supplied and fitted a polished Chrome Quooker Classic Nordic Monobloc mixer tap with a rinse in a chrome finish met with a Shaws 1000 double bowl sink.

Beneath the sink area is a soft close drawer that imitates a two-door cupboard design. Theses are proving to be very popular in our kitchen designs.

This state-of-the-art piece of equipment comes with the NASA technology that removes ethylene, mould bacteria and odours every 20 minutes. The Dual Refrigeration within also allows for the fresh food to stay fresher for longer with moist air on one side, and dry air on the other preventing frost and freezer burn.

Sub-Zero cooling appliances are engineered and built to last at least 25 years which also makes them a great investment!

The full-height pull-out larder is filled with stainless steel shelves to organise condiments and kitchen essentials in an easy-reach place for the budding chef.

A stunning bank of Wolf appliances sits at the back of the kitchen, the perfect kitchen accessories.

Through the solid wood door, we come to the perfect utility room. It has been fitted out with our classic shaker style and hand-painted in Down Pipe by Farrow & Ball. We supplied and fitted a Perrin & Rowe Phoenician Monobloc mixer tap with a rinse in a chrome finish that matches the knobs. The sink is another Shaws model designed to be extra wide and deep for bathing the dogs.

The sink is situated underneath a large window allowing lots of natural light to enter to make doing chores that much easier.
