  3. Bridger Kitchen Diary – A closer look at the Classic Shaker in Matching Tye

We revisit this stunning classic shaker we designed and built for a lovely couple in Matching Tye. Their vision was to open up the existing kitchen, plan in an AGA and expose the original features.

We invite you in to explore more of this historic property from the 1800s…

… in this idyllic countryside of Essex.

The kitchen layout is a subtle U-shaped with one end protruding out into the open space offering our client lots more worktop space. High ceilings and exposed wooden beams fill the atmosphere with warmth, depth and love.

Our client chose a neutral colour scheme consisting of Cornforth White by Farrow & Ball. This has proven to be a very popular colour in our handmade kitchens, where the colour is neither too warm nor too cool making it an understated grey creating a hushed and calming retreat.

The choice of copper touches and the warmth from the wood brings a touch of Scandinavian to the home. Armac Martin handles and knobs were also chosen for a luxury finish and to complete the look of the cabinets.

This shot shows the overall ‘U’ shaped layout from up above. A symmetrical design is carried through on the back wall with part of the cabinet being the place to house the microwave. On show but fitted within the kitchen design.

The timeless Carrara worktop cascades down from the bespoke cooker hood, offering natural beauty and elegance to the space.

A high-end American fridge/freezer positions itself neatly inside the bespoke cabinetry. We built the units around this and added overhead storage for kitchen items that aren’t always needed.

To the right of this is the sink area. This is made up of luxury components such as a Perrin & Rowe chrome tap and a stainless steel double bowl.

This side of the ‘U’ was rearranged to suit the new building work. Due to the property being historic there was only so much that our client was allowed to do to their kitchen remodel. They opted for an extended leg that is filled with lots of worktop space and clever storage solutions. A recycling bin is amongst the kitchen cabinets as well as solid oak drawers on a soft close. A pantry cupboard sits in the corner.

The new wall consisted of a window to add more natural light to this cute little sanctuary.

Look at that crisp and fresh white AGA sat in the middle of this beautiful home. Our client in Matching Tye couldn’t live without one now and there are thousands of AGA owners that say the same thing. The AGA provides great cooking results and a design that fits in perfectly with the history of the property. Our client has always wanted one of these robust appliances and thought that this would be the best time to purchase one.

Our client opted for a Mauviel Tea Kettle and Kitchen Aid both in a copper finish to complement the neutral hues of the kitchen design. Both perfect for making the perfect brew and delicious cake.

A closeup shot of the worktops that are a Carrara quartz, which is a very popular worktop material at the moment. The white background is filled with grey/blue veins flowing throughout the surface, perfectly combining all the neutral hues together.
