  3. Bridger Kitchen Diary – A closer look at the Classic Shaker in Potters Bar

This kitchen has become one of our most loved and favourites on Instagram, with it being a firm favourite of ours too. We have only recently photographed this stunning home with breathtaking views, and we wanted to share this recent project with you in more depth. It comes full of character, charm and individuality, all with exciting sunshine to leave a smile on your face.

Introducing the Stiffkey Blue Classic Shaker by Nicholas Bridger…

Big traditional style windows bathe this kitchen in the loveliest natural light, with an outstanding sink from Franke built underneath. Our client can take in their breathtaking views while completing tasks at this wet zone area.

Three charming pendants suspend above the island. Subtle and understated they enhance the island in a lovely way without taking the distraction from the simplicity of the cabinets and posh brass handles that were specifically chosen by our client.

The bespoke island has been made to measure, with an informal seating area to accompany the island’s design, where it gives people a comfortable space to relax and socialise at, while enjoying the lovely views of the garden and beyond.

Even the family pet is impressed with the hub of the home… The best flooring has been chosen for those muddy paws. It is Jerusalem White Gold Tumbled Limestone, which is a hard-wearing floor and provides a light natural hue to the kitchen space.

Our client wanted to create enough storage to help achieve an overall, clutter-free aesthetic. The longer length of the L-shaped kitchen features a row of storage solutions that work well within the kitchen space and are floor-to-ceiling. We have designed pocket doors into two of the cabinets that allows efficient space around them and easy access to the kitchens essentials. We have cleverly built the marble looking quartz as a ledge to these larders, so our client has somewhere to place those ingredients while searching for the others.

The transition from the utility to kitchen and then into the dining and living space is a fabulous design. The flooring stays the same throughout providing a great floor for the high-traffic areas, and a light and airy contrast against the bold blue of Stiffkey Blue and the warm grey of Dove Tale, both from Farrow & Ball.

What an impressive piece of furniture… This handmade kitchen oozes style and functionality all with a dreamy kitchen island centred in the middle of the hub of the home. It ticks all the boxes and demonstrates how an island should be used and how it should look. With the large sky light above the kitchen the family wanted to make the most of this beautiful room, ensuring all natural light was drawn in and the spacious feel wasn’t lost.

One of our favourite parts of this kitchen is the bespoke solid oak breakfast bar we designed on to the end of the island creating a curved element to the kitchen design. When deciding on your breakfast bar don’t be afraid to buck the trend… We love the contrast of the solid oak and the inky blue that is traditional in feel and creates a richly dramatic space with a more contemporary finish.

A beautiful bank of Miele appliances lies amongst the delightful beaded front frame of the classic shaker. There is even a top-class Miele coffee machine that freshly grounds the coffee beans for each cup to make an intense flavoured coffee to enjoy at any time of the day.

Just by the door to the utility room lies a very large fridge freezer that has been designed into the classic shaker furniture to create a streamlined kitchen style to match the minimalist style the client has chosen. Two large pull-out larder’s sit either side providing our client with more additional storage for those key dry ingredients.

At the Potters Bar project we flowed our handmade cabinetry into the dining room to create an ultimate dresser with glass doors and glass shelves. This piece of furniture merges the look and feel of the kitchen with the rest of the living space. We hand painted this in Charleston Gray by Farrow & Ball, which is a warm and muted grey with brown undertones that creates a warm, enveloping and hushed atmosphere.
