Bridger Kitchen Diary – A closer look at the Modern Shaker in Chigwell
We invite you to take a look around our Modern Shaker we designed and built-in Chigwell. A beautiful L-shaped bespoke kitchen that fits around the home perfectly offering an enjoyable space for our client and their family. We also completed the downstairs bathroom with our beautiful handmade furniture in a cheerful green.
Say hello to our smart and contemporary modern shaker…
… a fresh take on the traditional shaker with clean lines in the Epping Forest District of Chigwell.
As the kitchen glides around the L shape, you can see a two-tone colour scheme featuring paint from Farrow & Ball. The timeless grey named Moles Breath has been hand-painted onto the day pantry cupboard, breakfast pantry and the dining room dresser making them prominent in the kitchen space. Our client also opted for Strong White, a grey-based white perfect for modern homes and for creating an effortlessly cohesive scheme. This was hand-painted onto the main kitchen area.
Moles Breath by Farrow & Ball is a moody grey and takes its name from the roots of the much loved Elephant’s Breath. This particular hue is inspired by a smaller, furrier animal. It is particularly effective when used in smaller spaces and on kitchen islands, or on kitchen furniture you want to stand out, as it creates a fabulously sullen yet warm room.
Strong White by Farrow & Ball is a cool white, strong by name and strong by nature. The subtle urban feel of its light grey undertones adds a contemporary twist to period homes while staying within modern properties.
At the bottom of the L-shape natural light fills the space, making a clean and bright atmosphere for the prep and eating area. We have also incorporated two bespoke serving trays to add to the design aesthetics, plus they come in handy when needing a tray.
A Shaws of Darwen ceramic sink makes for the ultimate wash station. It has been combined with a Quooker instant boiling tap, an Insinkerator waste disposal unit which is controlled with the button to the right of the tap, and a Quooker hand wash station.
To add to the cooking appliances in this hub of the home our client opted for the Wolf blender finished with the signature red knob. The Wolf Gourmet High-performance Blender will change the way you prepare foods. This multi-tasking kitchen must-have will chop vegetables, puree sauces, whip cream, churn butter, grind grains and create smoothies beyond compare. It’s a quiet piece of kit and will open up a whole new world of taste and nutrition in your kitchen
The portable island is a novel idea. Due to the space being tight there wasn’t an option to have a fixed island, so we built our client a portable island which can be stored neatly underneath the L-shaped kitchen. Our client is then able to position the practical worksurface wherever they want within the space. We completed it with a Carrara marble style quartz and hand-painted it in Strong White by Farrow & Ball to match the rest of the kitchen. This type of worktop material is highly desirable to the modern kitchen.
An alluring dresser sits to the back of the kitchen offering extra kitchen storage and a place to keep the china and glasses behind closed doors completed with polished chrome handles and knobs.
The range cooker takes centre stage providing our client with warmth in the winter months and a cooking sensation, with the ultimate kitchen hood above to eliminate those unwanted cooking smells and steam. We carefully built the chimney hood around the existing beam with traditional cornices and pelmets.
The plinths we designed into this kitchen design are inset plinths, they make the cabinets appear to stand directly on the floor, giving the kitchen a solid finished look.
Also added to the work surface was the 4 slice Wolf Gourmet Toaster with signature red knobs. This special toaster from the award-winning company is powered with precise control for consistent results every time. It handles the thickest slices with aplomb and gives you the whole toast-browning spectrum from crisp and pale to dark brown with a distinct crunch.
The top of the L-shaped kitchen layout provides the perfect finishing touches. The dark flooring brings the whole space together creating our client with their ultimate dream kitchen that they will love for many years.
The most perfect breakfast pantry of all time…
The floor-to-ceiling breakfast pantry opens up on reversed hinged doors, allowing the coffee station to be opened up into the kitchen space perfect for those Sunday mornings, and to be shut away to create a minimalistic look to match the rest of the kitchen, when spring cleaning this Autumn.
Open-shelves fill the kitchen unit with space for the second toaster, coffee machine and a ‘cold shelf’ area to prepare the breakfast.
Below is a solid wood dovetailed drawer which is the ideal place for our client’s favourite Nespresso capsules and espresso cups and saucers. On a soft close, the drawer has been divided into sections to organise the pantry making everything easily accessible.
The ultimate floor-to-ceiling day pantry…
They are becoming increasingly popular and a loving element to a Nicholas Bridger handmade kitchen. They are a handy spot to keep all your cooking ingredients all in one place.
The artisan spice and condiment door racks are really handy for the small jars of spices, it makes it easy to select and add to that delicious recipe. The solid oak drawers come with an easy pull feature to hide away those treats and other kitchen essentials you may not use all of the time.
Breakfast Room Green by Farrow & Ball was hand-painted onto the cabinets in this downstairs bathroom. It is the most cheerful green of them all from Farrow & Ball’s green palette. It is named after the usually east facing room designed for eating the first meal of the day, and particularly beautiful in the dawn light.
We built over-head storage and a vanity station to provide our client with adequate storage and a tranquil space.
This peaceful green contrasts beautifully against the white walls, tiles and sanitary ware providing a sensational downstairs bathroom that’s ideal for the modern home.
