Choosing the right Sink for your Handmade Kitchen
The kitchen sink is something we use everyday, where we wash our hands, rinse the vegetables, clear up afterwards and so much more. You will need to make sure that you have chosen the right material, style, size and shape, and take the time in picking the perfect one for your aesthetical and practical needs.
Many people centre their kitchen sinks into the kitchen island for a feature, to create the perfect ‘kitchen triangle‘, or want to show off a traditional farmhouse sink within their traditional kitchen style. Just like the iconic sink below from Shaws in our Hutton project.
Here at Nicholas Bridger we provide many types of sinks, styles and materials from different manufactuers like Franke, Perrin & Rowe, Shaws, Caple and Blanco to fit right in with our handmade kitchens. Across many of our projects all types of sinks have been chosen to incorporate into the kitchen design and provide a multi-functional space for all the family.
Franke
Franke deliver all expectations of a kitchen sink, they believe that every kitchen should be as unique as you are. From an undermount kitchen sink to a ceramic sink, to a modern design, stainless steel, or even granite, every Franke design offers exquisite craftmanship. We have supplied many Franke sinks across our projects giving fabulous results maximizing the space and look of the entire room. We are proud to be suppliers of Franke sinks.
A Shaws fireclay sink makes the perfect, iconic focal point for both traditional and modern kitchen styles. At Nicholas Bridger we are proud to be suppliers of Shaws of Darwen sinks, and our hand-selected range is simply stunning. They are made from a traditional heavy duty fireclay construction which is a unique blend from South West England and France. The clay is still mixed and poured by hand before being coated in a hard-wearing glaze and firing the sink over 1200 degrees Celsius.
Caple
Caple sinks provide a diverse collection of ceramic, stainless steel, granite and glass sinks that will make a real difference to the look of the kitchen. We are proud to be suppliers of beautiful Caple sinks.
Perrin & Rowe
Perrin & Rowe was set up by Bob Perrin and Greg Rowe who were two friends and shared a passion for making things. All Perrin & Rowe products are designed and manufactured in Britain. They first started out making taps and developed the world’s first 3 in 1 tap, then went on to making sinks. We are proud to be suppliers of stunning handcrafted Perrin & Rowe sinks.
Blanco
Blanco are one of the world’s leading providers of high quality kitchen sinks and faucets. Family-owned since 1925, they have produced more than 50 million sinks in today’s history, and are recognized as a world leader in quality, innovation and unsurpassed service. We are proud to be suppliers of these world leading sinks.
Undermounted
An undermounted sink gives a creating flow throughout the kitchen, that sits beneath the countertop. Whether you choose a wood or luxury granite/quartz worktop, each undermounted sink will provide you with a style you will love for many years, just like the one below in our Sheering project. Many of our clients have opted for undermounted sinks as you will see when you scroll down.
There are two different ways you can choose for your undermounted sink to fit into your worktop.
- You can expose the sink more to make a design statement
- Conceal it from view and create a sleek surface
The Material
Choosing the material for your new sink, is an important factor. It will be in your kitchen for years to come, so the material you choose, you want it to work well with your lifestyle and complete the look you are going for, just like the kitchen below we completed in Sawbridgeworth, Herts.
Our client opted for two sinks in their kitchen with one being a feature in the island, and a double bowl on the main run of units. They chose Franke stainless steel sinks to complete their industrial style hub of the home.
Stainless steel
Stainless steel kitchen sinks are a popular option with a classic and industrial-look that are practical and stylish. They look the part with glistening stainless steel taps, and are easy to clean and maintain. Due to their neutral colour, they look great with any kitchen style, and are perfect for an industrial style.
In our Matching Tye project below a stunning Franke stainless steel sink sits undermounted to the left of the kitchen surrounded with a marble quartz known as the Noble Carrara. The light and airy hues of this classic shaker fit right in with the cool and fresh look of the stainless steel.
In our London SW12 project below a beautiful undermounted Franke stainless steel sink has been designed into the island of the kitchen providing a feature to the hub of the home and a perfect ‘kitchen triangle‘.
Our Potters Bar project below was complete with an undermounted Franke stainless steel sink that’s located in the island providing a perfect multi-functioning hub of the home met with polished Perrin & Rowe taps (the Phoenix 3 in 1 instant hot tap with separate rinse). Two basins were chosen of different sizes to complete different tasks, using the larger size to clean up and the smaller one to prep.
Ceramic
Ceramic sinks are a popular choice that are an ideal type for traditional and country kitchens. Due to their durability they can last a lifetime and are easy to clean. The sleek white colour will add a source of brightness to the kitchen area just like the one below in our Bishop’s Stortford project. We added a Fireclay double butler sink surrounded by the wooden aesthetics of this kitchen. We built a custom paneled extension to the wall too to ensure a perfect reach of the spout into the sink, it just looks that extra bit special too! A unique design to the kitchen and client.
Below in our Ongar project a Shaws double butler ceramic sink is designed into the dark coloured cabinetry known as ‘Railings’ from Farrow & Ball. The sink has been designed into the perfect place with a large window above letting lots of natural light in.
Our professional chef client below in Epping chose this beautiful 900mm double butler sink from Shaws. The beautiful handcrafted sink provides an iconic feature to this hub of the home met with Perrin & Rowe taps in a chrome finish.
Farmhouse
A farmhouse sink brings a vintage vibe to the kitchen space, and will look great in a traditional, country kitchen. A farmhouse sink is just not functional, it’s an eye-catching design feature. Below in our Harringay project a Caple farmhouse sink was added to this separate area to provide the perfect wet area of a ‘kitchen triangle’.
In our Classic Shaker in Hadley Wood below our client opted for a Double Belfast Ceramic Farmhouse by Villeroy & Boch to provide a perfect ‘kitchen triangle’ in this newly renovated property with all the needs of the family being met.
Beautiful paneled doors surround this stunning double butler sink met with Perrin & Rowe polished chrome taps below in our Whetstone project. The sink area has been completed with a quartz worktop known as Monaco Carrara which is a lovely marble effect that works well in this contemporary take on the traditional shaker style.
